Images of Some Famous Mathematical Works

This is a collection of images of title pages or pages from some famous mathematical works. Unlike modern title pages, many title pages of older works are often quite elaborate with wonderful "hidden" things to see. Pages from great works make great overhead slides in mathematics classes.

With this in mind, the images here were scanned at large sizes and resolutions so that they can be printed and you will get a fairly nice picture. I have tested most of these by downloading them and printing them out (using LView Pro) and they made good overhead slides. Of course, I do have the benefit of an HP LaserJet 4MV Postscript printer (600 x 600 dpi), so your mileage may vary. When you do download them, they will be much larger than your screen, but print them anyway and they will print nicely on one page (at least they did using LView Pro!).

If you would like to make an overhead slide and your printer fails you, email me at

and I will be glad to send you a copy. I am also willing to house any other images anyone might have.
